Is it time to give your business casual wardrobe a makeover? Is your closet flooded with rows and rows of boring blue and white business shirts and khaki trousers? if you answered yes to one or both of these questions, then it’s time to infuse your wardrobe with some verve and panache.
In the corporate work environment, most men wear khaki trousers and a white or blue business shirt whenever they are not dressed in suits. However, with just a smidgen of attention to detail, you can stand out from the crowd and corner the lion's share of attention.
What colour are most of the shirts in your closet? If you have mostly white or various shades of blue shirts, you're in the wrong majority because you are blending in with the crowd, not standing out. It's time to add some pastels:
These light colours are versatile and easily matched with a wide variety of trousers, ties and jackets. Further, in a sea of blue and white business shirts, all eyes will be on you.
For variety, just swap your solid coloured shirts for patterned shirts. Stripes are fine for any business casual environment and checks are acceptable in many situations, too, so have fun experimenting with different colors, styles and patterns.
Trade those tired, functional khakis for shades in deep brown, olive or summer white. For a dressier look, wear charcoal grey wool – use lightweight wool for summers and flannel for the fall and winters.
Are you the adventurous gent? Go all out with patterned trousers in a checked or small pattern with a solid white or blue shirt. Jeans in a deep, un-faded indigo are also appropriate in some offices.
Caution: if you wear denim to work, it must be distress-free, well fitted and a darker shade.
Don't restrict your daily office wear to conservative but oh-so boring black dress shoes and black belts.Pair buttery brown slip-ons with lighter trousers. To jazz up your charcoal grey flannel trousers, wear reddish, oxford leather bluchers.
If you want to play with the big boys, you need to dress the part. Nothing speaks success better than a well-fitted, custom tailored men's suit. Pair your suit with a custom madebusiness shirt and some other carefully chosen accessories for the ultimate power look.
