If you want a suit that always looks crisp and sharp, never wrinkly or rumpled, you’ll have to invest some time in its care and maintenance. While it requires some effort on your part, spending a little time on your suit after every use helps extend its life.

1. Brush Your Jackets and Trousers

Thirty seconds - that's all it takes to clean your clothes with a stiff bristle brush after each wearing. A regular brushing removes any vestige of food and dirt that might have accumulated.

If you don't brush your clothes after wearing them, food particles and dirt settle into the fabric and decompose. As it decomposes, it may attract insects, which leads to fabric damage. A regular brushing allows you to wear garments a few more times before taking them to the cleaners.

2.Keep Garments in Good Repair

As the proverb says, a stitch in time saves nine. Inattention to routine repairs can cause major problems later. For example, if your trousers are tight at the back, take heed. Don't just wait to lose weight; you could end up splitting the seam.

It's easier to let the trousers out an inch or so and avoid unnecessary hassles or embarrassment. If your suit jacket's button looks like it's going to fall off, sew it back on before you lose the button. Losing the button means wasting time trying to find a perfect match or spending the money to replace the entire set.

3. Ironing and Steaming

While some men, especially those who travel frequently, prefer wrinkle-free materials, these fabrics can't compare to the look and feel of a freshly ironed 100% cotton business shirt. Ironing gives body and character to a shirt; the sharp creases at the collar, the perfectly ironed French cuffs, and the smooth drape of a crisply pressed shirt back all enhance your appearance.

If you prefer using your time doing other things, have your local dry cleaner cold wash and steam press your business shirts. It's usually very affordable and worth the expense.

4. Build up Steam

If you must remove wrinkles quickly from delicate fabrics, steaming is your best option. You can have your clothes professionally steam cleaned or do it yourself with a steam iron.

Steaming reduces the risk of fabric damage because unlike ironing, you do not touch the fabric with the heated metal. However, steam is ineffective on cotton; you won't get the crisp look you desire. Do be careful when steaming a woollen jacket or other shaped pieces of apparel because it's easy to blow out seams and create a billowed look where the fabrics connect.
