Where to spend New Year’s Eve in Sydney

2016 is drawing to a close, and even though you haven’t even had your turkey yet, it’s about time to start planning your New Year’s Eve celebrations.

From balls to nights out on the harbor, Sydney has it all, but after taking a look at what the city has to offer this year, we settled on these three events as our recommendations for an incredible New Year’s Eve in Sydney. 

Midnight at the Oasis

An adults only event that promises spectacular views of the fireworks, this is a night out to remember. Set in the magnificent surroundings of the Royal Botanic Gardens, you’ll enjoy a night of great food and drinks.

A three-course meal starts the night off and promises delicious offerings to suit all palates. There will be a licensed bar with all the usual suspects, be they cocktails, spirits, or beers, and you’ll also enjoy live music performed by a local band followed by a DJ set.

For the fireworks, you will have exclusive access to the Garden Oasis on the Harbour that offers spectacular views of the bridge. And they even offer a late supper to help tide you over till the midnight hour. 

New Year’s Eve on Seadeck

If you have $595 to spend on an evening of food and drink, then we can think of no better way to spend it than buying a ticket for Seadeck. Unless you’ve been under a rock these last few years, you’ll know that Seadeck is the harbour’s permanent floating event venue.

You can’t really get a much better view than this, and with plenty of drinks flowing alongside live music and entertainment, this is a great way to spend the cash you put away for a special night out.

There will be light snacks available too, and if you’re feeling important, then you can book a VIP table so you won’t lose your seat halfway through the night.

It starts at 6.30 and finishes at 1.30am but the free drinks will only be served for three hours during that time, which is probably a good idea. 

New Year's Eve at Bennelong

If Seadeck doesn’t set your pulse racing, then perhaps it’s a night of refined luxury for you. Spend an evening under the sails of Sydney Opera House and enjoy fantastic views of the fireworks from the terrace.

You’ll enjoy exquisite champagne on arrival before settling down for a five-course dinner that uses locally sourced produce throughout. Each course will have wines matched to the food, and the wait staff will ensure all guests have a glass of the finest champagne ready for the stroke of midnight.

The private terrace is open for guests only and boasts one of the best views in the city for the big fireworks show. And how much does all of this cost? $1350 per person, but in our opinion, it will be money well spent just for the food and wines alone. 

Whatever your plans are this coming New Year’s Eve make sure you plan ahead. There will be road closures as there are every year, and while there will be additional public transport available, you should still expect to spend thirty minutes to an hour more than usual in getting to your destination for the night.
