Easter is right around the corner and with it comes the opportunity to spend a long weekend with family and friends. But rather than following the herd and jumping on a flight for the long weekend why not spend the holiday right here in Sydney. From egg hunts to horse shows, it’s all on next weekend, and we’ve whittled it down to four of our favourites.
You can’t have Easter without a good old egg hunt and for the fifth year running the biggest hunt will take place in Centennial Park on the 4th and 5th of April. Kids of all ages are more than welcome but remember that only those who have bought a ticket can get to eat yummy chocolate or claim a prize at the end of the hunt. It’s $15 per trail map which is good for one child but if dad is feeling greedy you can always buy a few more.

Undoubtedly our favourite event over Easter, The Championships Day 1 on April 4th is a great day of racing, fashion and dining. A perfect excuse to get your custom tailored suit out of the wardrobe as you prepare to watch some of the world’s richest races while mixing it with Sydney’s fashion elite. Black and white has been the order of the day for many a year and this year is no different. So if you’d rather a weekend free of egg shaped chocolate, but steeped in style and fine dining, then it’s the races for you.

The Blacktown drive-in hosts a Sunday Market every week from 7am to 2pm with Easter Sunday’s market promising quite a bit of entertainment. There’ll be live music and plenty of food to sample from the huge variety of stalls and vans. And to keep the kids amused, a free Easter egg hunt will be held with a special guest appearance from the Easter Bunny himself. And if that doesn’t tire their little legs out then the jumping castle surely will.

Without a doubt the biggest of the bunch and one that is sure to have something for everyone. The Royal Easter Show runs from the 26th of March to the 8th of April and features the old family favourites we’ve all come to know and love. Woodchopping, Showgirls, Rodeo, The Grand Parade and countless exhibits are what make this show a really special event. But the highlight for many – the little ones in truth – has to be the showbags. This year’s bags cover everything from Frozen to Batman so you can expect to see plenty of little princesses and superheroes running amok over the weekend.
