Elegant, well-fitting clothing is one part of a knock-out appearance. Sporting a Hollywood jawline is another guaranteed way to focus attention on you. Here’s our expert advice on achieving that perfect shave with just six straightforward steps.

Ever wondered how celebs contrive to have their whiskers grow in such straight lines that hug the contours of their ridiculously manly jaws? Well, wonder no more; if you want that Hollywood jaw with the sharper angles, all you have to do is follow these six simple steps.

Shower first shave second

Ideally, you’ll shave directly after a shower. The heat from your shower opens the skin pores, thus making it much easier to shave.

Scrub off the dead skin

It’s surprising how few men make use of a good facial scrub to get rid of all that built-up dead skin all over their faces.

Relieving your face of excess dead skin is an essential part of any grooming regimen, but in this instance, we want you to focus your scrub on any area where your facial hair grows.

Condition

You’ll want to condition your facial hair, yes - even the stubble, and leave the condition on to do its magic for at least five minutes or so. Just about enough time to finish your shower, but don’t wash off that conditioner just yet.

Forget the shaving cream

Unless you’re good with razor blades on a slippery surface, we suggest you jump out of the shower and do your shaving at the sink. That left-in conditioner is going to be a substitute for your shaving cream. To be perfectly honest, any barber worth his salt will tell you to ditch the shaving cream in favour of a shaving oil or that beard conditioner you’ve already used.

Keep it straight

This step seems so simple, but unless you’re told it, it might never occur to you. Shave a straight line diagonally down from your sideburn to the side of your moustache or at least where your moustache should be.

All too often when men are trying to keep their stubble or grow a beard, they leave this line to grow naturally and lose that straight line look that defines a jaw. You can also do a bit of work around the jawline to add more definition.

The finishing touch

Splash cold water on your face to close up the pores and help prevent razor burn naturally. Quite often though, this isn’t enough, so you might want to have a facial astringent such as Tend Skin’s Skin Care Solution on hand. This not only helps with the razor burn but also disinfects your skin and prevents ingrown hairs.

So now every time you open a magazine, you'll realize that movie star or model may not have the striking manly jaw that he appears to have. He simply knows how to achieve that look through a bit of clever shaving, and a simple straight line trick that is so obvious you’ll wonder why you never did it before.

Now that you know the secret to that silky, smooth jawline, why not accentuate it with a new dinner suit or sports jacket? After all, you'll never know when you'll have an opportunity to make that all-important first impression, so why take a chance? At Montagio Custom Tailoring, our goal is to help you look damn good - all the time.
