Graduation ceremonies have specific dress codes regardless of whether you attend as a guest or a participant. Respect the efforts underlying yours or others achievements by learning about the significance of the event and picking a suitable outfit to show your respect and good manners.
Many graduates think their graduation is an event focused solely on them and the culmination of their education. However, this couldn't be further from the truth.
Graduations are family celebrations; time spent reflecting on the sacrifices made by others to achieve a common goal. Therefore, you need to dress smartly not only for yourself, but for those who sacrificed for you to celebrate this august day.
In addition to wearing a ceremonial robe, you'll need to be properly dressed because your shoes, socks and trouser legs are visible. Harness the timeless charm of oxfords as footwear, although dress shoes made from quality leather – with proper shining – will do as well.
For most people, a simpletailor made men's suit and a tie or a sports jacket, dark trousers and a necktie makes the perfect ensemble. If you are robed, omit the jacket under the robe, but keep it handy to wear to the reception and photograph sessions.
If you happen to be a guest of the graduate, consider the ceremony's location when assembling your outfit. For example, ceremonies at the Universities of Sydney or Melbourne can be attended in a men's suit; graduations at Melbourne High School can be attended in sports jackets and light-wool trousers.
Whether you are a guest or the honoree at an upcoming graduation ceremony, you may in the market for a new look. You can browse through hundreds of sample business suits when you pop by our Sydney CBD or Brisbane CBD Showroom. If you are in Canada, visit our showroom and get yourself a custom suit in Toronto.
