If you’re serious about suits and let’s face it you should be, then a suiting arsenal that prepares you for all eventualities is not only important but essential. Unfortunately, though, we’re not all in the same wage bracket as the David Beckhams and Ryan Goslings of this world. So how to cover all the bases without breaking the bank? It’s easier than you think and it only involves investing in three quality suits.
When you think formal wear, you think black. It is, after all, the quintessential formal suit and has been the go-to look for many a ball and gala-hopping gent for decades now. And while many suiting trends have come and gone, the black suit remains at the pinnacle of formal wear.
Having a quality black suit in your closet means that even unexpected last minute invitations to black tie events won’t result in a mad dash for the nearest tuxedo rental shop. It also means that you’ve a respectful outfit for more somber occasions such as funerals and memorials. A big meeting with potential million dollar clients? A black business suit exudes a professional air that is hard to ignore.
At this point, we can all agree that the navy suit is here to stay. Wearing one to work is no longer considered a bold move by the office maverick, so why do you need one? Well, it’s all about versatility. You see while the navy suit has become ensconced in the world of business attire, it’s also useful in less formal settings.
The classic smart casual look these days is made up of three essential components; the navy suit, the open collar shirt, and the brown shoe. Now you might think that following the herd is not for you, but the truth is that there are a million different ways to wear this look with no two the same. So dismiss the navy suit as ‘too common’ at your peril.
The grey suit is a little harder to pull off than a black or navy, but if you get it right, it’s the most memorable of the lot. Less versatile than its navy counterpart, the grey suit often evokes images of headmasters and businessmen making it perfect for the office and those client meetings we mentioned earlier.
One thing to note, though, is that the lighter the shade, the less formal the look. If you value versatility highly then keep it light so you can also incorporate this suit into your smart casual wardrobe. Lighter shades also give you a bit of a more youthful and relaxed look that’s great for a day at the races.
So there you have it, three suits to rule them all. Add these to your wardrobe and you are all set for anything the world can throw at you barring, of course, the zombie apocalypse. And with no sign as yet of the walking dead appearing on the streets of Sydney, perhaps it’s time to get yourself down to the Montagio showroom where we can fit you for these three must have suits.
