The haircut and shave

The life of the barber chair is one of many facets. Confessions, opinions, advice, and, of course, the obligatory haircut are commonplace in this most hallowed of gentlemen’s reserves. And whether or not you know it, there’s something utterly soothing about the hum of the shears and the snip of the scissors.

So in our opinion, it makes perfect sense to add a relaxing drink into the mix which is exactly what the good folk of The Barber Shop have done. This establishment has a very distinctive old world feel with vintage tools and classic cut and shave services. But just through the partition door is a drinks emporium reminiscent of a 1920’s cocktail bar.

What’ll it be sir? A cut, a shave, and a Manhattan if you please. Safe to say, we’re sold on this idea.

The suit

If you’re after the perfect look and a bit of self-indulgence then what better way to spoil yourself for all those long hours spent in the office than a trip to a custom tailor. While some may scoff at what they perceive to be an expensive and unnecessary flamboyance, we’re firm believers in never knocking something until you’ve tried it.

The truth is that having a suit tailored is more than just a fitting and a pick-up. The true tailoring experience involves getting to know your tailor and trusting in his knowledge and expertise, allowing him to fit you out for the ideal suit. It’s a bond of trust that harkens back to the days of Savile Row, and it’s what we at Montagio try our best to bring to you.

The shoes

We have beat this particular drum on several occasions and yes we’re about to do it again. Never should a custom tailored suit be paired with anything less than a high-quality pair of shoes. And the place to find such in Sydney CBD is Andrew McDonald Shoemaker.

Each pair of custom made shoes from one of Australia’s most respected shoemakers takes close to forty hours to complete. And with so much time invested in each pair you can rest assured that you will receive nothing less than the best. One piece of advice we’ll offer is to be sure to wear or take you suit with you when choosing a style. This allows for the man himself to help you choose the perfect pair for your desired look.

The accessories

Some say that a suit is nothing without accessories, and while we don’t agree entirely, we do understand that to accessorize is, at times, to complete a look. Ties, pocket squares, and even a waistcoat can be incorporated into a look to add personality and flair. But your local tailor (that’s us) should be able to help you out with these items when you are purchasing your suit.

There is one accessory, though, that while we’re not experts on, we have a bit of a thing for, and that’s the dress watch. And our personal favourite haunt for fawning over luxury timepieces is The Hour Glass. From Rolex to Casio and everything in between, if you’ve got a watch style in mind, the chances are that you’ll find it here. With stores throughout Asia and three right here in Australia, these purveyors of high-end watches will steer you in the right direction.
